Muscat, March 5th 2013 – Eli Bomfim, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator at The Sultan’s School was invited to lead the Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) Workshop in Hong Kong next month. The three day workshop will provide professional development for teachers and assistance for schools applying for IB authorization and is usually conducted by experienced IB workshop leaders. As one of the country’s longest established learning institution The Sultan’s School has remained fully committed to staying current and up-to-date to help students succeed in school and the future.Graeme Garrett, Principal at The Sultan’s School said, “As the IB programme is relatively young in the Sultanate, it is gratifying to be acknowledged for our work with world-standard teachers by an international educational body. The invitation to not only participate but lead the workshop enhances our efforts in ensuring our students are exposed to the best professionals to help them through their journey.”
He added, “We are vigilant in understanding and implementing the latest teaching techniques as well as meeting outstanding teaching standards. The Sultan’s School maintains its position as the foremost leader in education by placing an importance on IT as the current way of life to communicate and extract information. We also encourage parents to participate and get involved in their children’s education by joining us in experiencing the course firsthand and learn more about the curriculum.”
To demonstrate the strengths and benefits of the International Baccalaureate Curriculum, the school recently held an IB Day to engage the parents of our secondary students in several events showcasing the wide-ranging programme. The Sultan’s School IB Day included presentations from IB students, as well as a chance for parents to witness the unique elements of ‘Creativity, Action, Service’, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge modules. Parents had the chance to ‘go back to school’ by taking part in Arabic, English, Maths, the Humanities and Science lessons, as well as enjoying a festival of Music and Art performed by the students and participating in a debate organized by the school’s Model United Nations Group. The success of the event has prompted the school to include an IB Day as a fixture in the annual calendar.
The Sultan’s School focuses on providing a balanced educational experience to both students and teachers by expanding their horizons and supporting them through new endeavours. The International Baccalaureate programme is considered the gold standard of worldwide pre-University courses that enhances personal, social and professional development and can lead directly to some of the world’s premier further education institutions.
