Lulu, no doubt, is in the top slot of hypermarkets in the region. It has spread every corner of the region with full benefits that should grant from a hypermarket to the mass. Keeping the prices at bay and competing with other hypermarkets but only with fair market strategies, Lulu has now become indomitable retail chains in the region. It has hypermarkets in Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and Oman. At present, it homes for more than 20,000 multi-ethnic, multi-religions, and multi-national employees who abide like members of one family towards a set goal.
Worthy appearance of Lulu to Sultanate of Oman was recorded in September 2004 with the opening of its first Hypermarket at Bausher. Just one year from the first, it opened the second Lulu hypermarket in November 2005 at Darsait. The third was opened at Sohar in March 2008. The Lulu expansion in Oman is remarkably fast. Its popularity among the mass is highly emphatic with its amazingly rapid expansion not only in Oman but also in the region and Asia as a whole.
By the end of year 2010, there will be five new Lulu Hypermarket in Oman. With this new five, the number of Lulu Hypermarkets in Oman is going to be 11. According to Managing Director of EMKE Group of Companies, the idea is to bring Lulu super service to the doorstep of citizens. When it happens, the extra expenditure for traveling and the time wastage on shopping would reduce to great extent.
The cost for new expansion is approximately RO 90 million. The five new hypermarkets in Wadi Kabir, Nizwa, Salalah, Khasab and Khabourah, are their final stages of construction. All will be opened before 2011 and the first one will be opened this month at Wadir Kabir followed by Lulu in Khabourah. It is going to open in May. The Salalah hypermarket will open this year for the mass. It is a giant of a hypermarket and will comprise with children's amusement region, three restaurants, leisure facilities,eight food courts and many other facilities. The Salalah hypermarket would address the need of the growing tourist population as well.
The hypermarket that costs about RO 14 million in Buraimi will be completed in 2011 and will comprise with an amusement area, multiplex cinema, coffee shops, food courts and many more facilities. With these five hypermarkets, the total floor area of Lulu in Oman will be 90,000 square meters. The Lulu Hypermarkets chain in Oman has achieved great success despite the recession with its last year revenue. When comparing with 2008 revenue, the growth rate for 2009 was 17 percent and it will be 25 percent when the new five hypermarkets opened.
Lulu has been generating a large number of employments for youth in Oman since its inception. About half of the employees of Lulu Oman are Omani nationals. By year 2011, the figure will be double. |
